Living in a boarding school is very different from a child's life before, so the students have to make adjustments in order to survive finishing the boarding school. Student who fails to conform to the boarding life have many problems, which start in the beginning, in the middle or in the end of the study. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the independency with the self adjustment of the boarding school students. The proposed hypothesis is a positive relationship between independency with self-adjustment .
The population is students of MTs X, Sukoharjo which consists of 8 classes. Based on cluster random sampling technique, 4 classes was selected: VII.A (24 students), VII.B (23 students), VII.E (25 students) and VII.H (22 students). Total amount of 93 student, and the data is collected by independency scale and self-adjustment scale.
Data is analyzed by product moment technique, and the result shows a correlation coefficient rxy = 0.648, p = 0.000 (p ≤ 0.01). It means that there is a significant positive relationship between independency with self-adjustment, so the hypothesis is accepted. Contribution of independency to self adjustment is 41.9 %, with a relatively high degree in independency and self-adjustment.
Keywords : independency, self-adjustment, boarding school
